2016 Lecture
Anushka Asthana
The Guardian
The 2016 Philip Geddes Memorial Lecture was delivered by Anushka Asthana on Friday 4 March on the topic of Breaking into the boys’ club: Why British politics needs more women.
At the time of the lecture Anushka had recently been appointed the political editor of the Guardian, sharing the role with Heather Stewart. Born in Scunthorpe and raised in Greater Manchester, she read economics at Cambridge University before going on to work for the Observer, the Washington Post and the Times. Since 2013 and until early 2016 she has been a political correspondent for Sky News.
In 2016, St Edmund Hall celebrated its 3,000th female student since admission was opened to women so the timing of Anushka’s lecture could hardly have been better.
